The Buddy Walk® was established by the National Down Syndrome Society in 1995 and has grown to be the world’s largest and most recognizable Down syndrome awareness program with over 225 Walks taking place in 50 states and select international countries. In the past year, 300,000 walkers collectively raised nearly $12 million, which is used to support local programs and services as well as national advocacy initiatives. Our organization, South Puget Sound Up With Down Syndrome, is a Washington State registered non-profit charity (1135001) and a federal 501(c)(3) tax exempt charity (FEIN 462173793). All funds collected go directly to the benefit our local programs and to the NDSS and are tax deductible.

The Buddy Walk is an approximate half mile walk in which anyone can participate. It is a wonderful, heart-warming event that celebrates the many abilities and accomplishments of people with Down syndrome. Having our own local Buddy Walk has special meaning to the families and organizations, which support individuals with Down syndrome living in Thurston and surrounding counties.
Our 16th Annual Buddy Walk will be held at the Lacey Athletic Complex, Shelter C, on Saturday, September 28th, 2024 initiating the celebration of National Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October. Festivities will begin about 9:30 AM. Please join with us as we share our message “We are all in — Up with Down Syndrome”.
